A CAT scan is a computerized procedure that combines several x-ray images to produce cross sectional and three dimensional images of internal organs as well as other body structures. CAT scans are not recommended during pregnancy unless the benefits clearly outweigh the potential risk. Because a CAT scan involves exposure to radiation at higher levels than normal x-rays, it is best to discuss with your physician the benefits and risks of receiving a CAT scan during pregnancy.
