Standing or staying on your feet for long periods of time during your pregnancy is not harmful in general although it can become more uncomfortable as your pregnancy progresses. Standing in one place for a long time can lead to swelling and lower blood pressure, so you should try to take short walks a few times a day. Support garments, such as maternity belts or support hose can also provide some comfort and relief. If you notice sudden swelling in your face and hands let your doctor know right away -- it could be a sigh of preeclampsia, a condition where your blood pressure rises dangerously high.
