The use of heroin while pregnant is not considered to be safe, and is harmful to the developing unborn baby. Heroin is a highly addictive drug that does cross the placenta to the unborn baby and enters the unborn baby's circulation. The drug is so addictive that the unborn baby can become dependent on the heroin. Heroin is a serious drug contains toxins that can seriously harm your unborn baby. Heroin can cause an unborn baby to have a stroke, resulting in irreversible brain damage, heart attack or death. Using heroin while pregnant can increase the chance of miscarriage, placenta abruption, fetal death, premature births, low birth-weight, developmental delays, and behavioral and learning problems.
