Description

X-ray during pregnancy is often safe, but the level of safety depends on how much radiation you are exposed to and the type of x-ray. Routine x-rays can usually be postponed until after the birth of your baby. X-rays may be essential in many medical procedures and in emergency cases. A single diagnostic x-ray does not have a radiation dose significant enough to cause adverse effects in a developing embryo or fetus. However, it is best to avoid x-ray and radiation during the first trimester, and most times, if a problem is discovered in the third trimester, your medical physician will wait to schedule the procedure until after your baby is born. You should discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor of having an x-ray while pregnant. Updated: 09.26.20
